Studio City Hotel | Dubai | UAE | Soehne and Partner Architects
Now Dubai is going to make films, creating fictions. Dubai Studio City will be the next Mecca of the global illusions-industry. It is a logical consequence of Dubai's city history. Following the essence of Paul Auster's statement, Dubai found his new way to create fictions in making movies.
In this context the strongest expressions for fictions are science fiction movies, because in sci-fi movies the journey goes on and it never ends, it's just a question of creativity. The medium for the fiction trip is the spaceship. The Hotel we designed is also a medium, a medium for hospitality, but it's not a spaceship, because it can not fly - just in movies.
So it is the inverse of a spaceship it is a space harbour for business people, actors and people who wants to taste the atmosphere of illusions..........more
As a metaphore, the harbour stands for a way through, an interface - a place where illusions are coming true or also new challenges. Hotels are quite similar, because people in a hotel are also on a way through and looking forward to the next future.

Mixed Use Development | Krøyers Plads | Copenhagen | Denmark | Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects
VLA and COBE's proposal for three new buildings at Krøyers Plads uses the historic warehouses as inspiration.
Folding roofs and the building's robust materials are important architectural themes that create a dialogue between old and new, and at the same time a modern and empathetic interpretation of the architectural uniqueness of the old Copenhagen warehouses.
The two new buildings facing the harbour are designed as office facilities. The dwellings are grouped in one building that is orientated towards the basin with an open glass facade, allowing for greater views of the harbour. The building's simple geometry with sloping roofs, relates to the surrounding cornice heights, and is designed with roof surfaces exposed to the harbor like the existing warehouses. The modern warehouses at Krøyer Plads are developed after a series of principles of sustainability, so the buildings meet the need for environmental, social, economic and resource-focused aspects of construction.........more

Performance Center Alexanderhoehe | Iserlohn | Germany | B + U
The design situates the building adjacent to the existing Parktheater. The expressive form of the building creates a landmark for the city and the region.
When situating the building on the site it was important to us to redefine the urban relationship of Alexanderheights with the city. The building was placed in the north of the Parktheater and oriented towards the inner city to emphasize this. On the otherhand we wanted to create a synergy between the existing Parktheater and the new Multifunctional hall and create a single access point for vistors to both theaters as a shared service access for more efficient access.........more

Twin tower proposals have been conceived in a scissor formation to optimise views towards the harbour corniche and beyond to the Gulf. The building orientation minimises wind loading and exposure to the low sun angles with 'dart-like' forms exploiting and funnelling cooling breezes, while providing shade and a calming eddy at the ground plane............more

Porsgrunn Maritime Museum | Porsgrunn | Southern Norway | COBE
The city of Porsgrunn has a long maritime history of shipping, and the unique development of the region is clearly visible in the existing remarkable building structure of the area. The concept of the museum shows a high level of sensitivity towards the existing small buildings yet simultaneously stands out as a contemporary public building - housing a science center that takes its starting point in the narrative about Porsgrunn and Norway’s transformation from being a nation of seafaring to a modern society based on knowledge industry. Taking into account the surrounding building structure, the new building is composed of several smaller volumes with tilted and pitched roofs that are assembled into a larger building unit........more
