Architectural Competiton | Guangzhou Velodrome | Guangzhou | China | Wilkinson Eyre


These proposals for a new Velodrome in Guangzhou were developed as part of an international design competition. The island site is masterplanned around a central lake and green landscaped heart, and will eventually host 10 university campuses with a population of over 150,000 students. Lying within the ‘Sports and Information Zone’, our design has been inspired by the concentric rings of ripples caused by raindrops or stones falling into still water..........more

Heung Yuen Wai Bound­ary Con­trol Point can not con­sist of two sep­a­rate build­ings divided by the river and recon­nected by bridges. We pro­pose one object span­ning over the river as a sym­bol of the union of China and Hong Kong. A softly shaped object that con­trasts with the rigid struc­ture of the truck park­ing which sur­rounds it. The same soft form is also used for the plat­form accessed by cars and coaches. Together they work har­mo­niously as a whole and reflect the ubiq­ui­tous flow over the river........more
