Wilkinson Eyre were shortlisted as part of a team led by landscape architects Field Operations in this competition to enhance Governors Island – a 170 acre territory in the middle of New York harbour between Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island and New Jersey.
The proposals envisage Governors Island as a unique and other-worldly place, enhancing its dramatic exposure to the natural elements and emphasising its sense of remoteness from the city. Bridges, boardwalks, decks and pools bring the visitor close to the water, reinforcing the ‘otherness’ of the island rather than creating a sanitised and over-commercialised frontage.........more

Architectural Competition | Nizhny Novgorod Winter Sports Complex | Nizhny Novgorod | Russia | Wilkinson Eyre
These design proposals for a new ski jump and sports complex in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod are a response to a complex brief and a sensitive site. The new facilities include a 120m ski jump and multi purpose leisure accommodation for large volumes of people. These proposals for a new Velodrome in Guangzhou were developed as part of an international design competition. The island site is masterplanned around a central lake and green landscaped heart, and will eventually host 10 university campuses with a population of over 150,000 students. Lying within the ‘Sports and Information Zone’, our design has been inspired by the concentric rings of ripples caused by raindrops or stones falling into still water..........more
