An Urban Landmark for Forest Place | Perth | AQUILIALBERG

The feelings and sensual impressions are the most suitable and effective in the telling and capturing of the city of today, and the entity tension between evolution and involution, which is not to be concluded, without a point of view that hides and reveals at the same time moments of poetry in addition to surprising moments of normalcy.

As is the masterpiece of Godfrey Reggio Koyaanisqatsi who in 1982 who already represented the condition of contemporary life in its strong dichotomy between nature and cities, describing a new aesthetic of the chaotic metropolis.

The change from traditional urban space made clear by spatial separation of the fragmented space of the new contemporary urban landscape, no longer consists ofphysical objects in relative proximity to each other, as increasingly invisible networks that connect the different poles. It was passed by individual entities placed in spatial sequence, to complex systems that include in them elements in perpetual flux.

Strengthened by these premises and considerations, the installation though of for Forest Place, generates and at the same time dissolves into a continuum that includes space in a single continuous surface to the extent determined by the different flows that become generators and integral parts:the kinetic flow of people: pedestrians, public transport, cars and trains, and the energy flow of nature: sea water, light and air.

The area of the site expands horizontally and vertically as a continuum, that includes space in developing areas to stop passersby, meetings, support plans, unusual points of view through the installation itself, making it permeable and continuous in relationship with the surroundings.

Expressing the concept of network, catalyzing and expressing the Zeitgeist, the spirit of its time in a project implemented by the latest digital processes of contemporary and transmitted information, translating the virtual space in new fluid, evanescent, whose skin develops with the structure to become the interface between the external environment and internal space.

We propose a catalyst of people and events that will allow the accumulation of inputs which are then invested in upgrading the city itself, attractive hub of events, suggesting a strong and immediately recognition of the site... a LANDMARK.

The very theme of the connection between the parties themselves is to merge the reflecting information flows that characterize the area, determining the balanced development to that degree, emerging from the horizontal surface of the floor, which spread three-dimensional tensions, involving direction of the quadrilateral project, projected towards the city.

A sculpture that can be defined as a complex system made up of many elements in cooperation among themselves, and to suffer continuous changes to adapt to the needs and expectations of visitors.

The scenic feature is the artificial light colored at nightfall which accentuates the sensuality in constant evolution

Games of the reflected light that creates the changes facing the project, placed in an intriguing novelty that produces the inevitable changes in the environment, passerby’s are enchanted by the reflections that bring out their emotions.

In this space; hybrid, artificial but treated as an urban landscape, accommodated are a number of functions that become a part of city, living on their own but at the same time participating, and revitalizing the quality of Perth, increasing the value and its emotional appeal. ......more

Public Library of Bressanone | Brixen | Aquilialberg

The Aquilialberg project of the Public Library of Bressanone has the aim to become a new gathering location for the population. Following this line, the project is designed to assure wide spaces for socialization, both interior and exterior, to accommodate public manifestations and cultural encounters. It is a place to spread knowledge, in which citizen could feel themselves at ease and spend spare time constructively. A deep design study is conducted for the new volume; the starting point was the relation with the existing neighbors volumes and their geometries. An especially attention is given to the orientation of the roofs' slopes of the closest buildings, with the purpose to match, in the most elegant way, the new project with the context of the city. The composition language, developed in the design of the new volume, came from the push of the neighbor roofs' slopes through the competition site. A void is generated and it worked as a hinge matching the existing volumes with the new Library building. The Hinge-Volume material is glass, chosen to respect the relation between historical past of the existing and the new presence......more

Eschborn Town And Municipal Hall | JWSD Architekten

Our project proposal suggests a curve-shaped building that naturally blends into the open spaces of the surrounding heterogeneous structures. The stand-alone building includes the community’s new town hall as well as a municipal hall, library and council chamber. In combination with the generous foyer the three core areas form a flexibly utilizable event scenario with a spectacular space experience. The required office space logically surrounds the three event cores.....more

Mira International Trade Center | Santa Ana | California | John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects

International Catalyst: Taking its cue from a binary star system called “Mira,” in which two stars are locked in rotation around each other, this 2,000,000 square foot trade center aims to catalyze reciprocal, mutually beneficial business relationships between China and the United States.

Urban Billboard: Stretching along Orange County’s 55 Freeway, the project’s 7-story, 2,000 foot long south façade is conceived of as a giant billboard to advertise the products, technologies, and identities showcased inside. The twisting and banding of alternately perforated and solid metal panels provide a shimmering texture for the freeway façade, as well as natural breaks for a variety of electronic and digital display systems.

Koi: The project’s shape is a direct result of the site’s property lines, but it intensifies its resemblance to a fish with textured surfaces and color inspired by the much revered koi. Its head contains the main entrance, an auditorium, a conference center, and an exterior glass “funnel” that carries visitors from the ground all the way to the rooftop garden and restaurants. Its tail includes a triple height exhibition space. Its spine is comprised of 600 showrooms in a back-to-back arrangement that allows ample natural light and views between inside and outside. Punctuating this spine are freestanding conference pods and other gathering spaces that foster creative interaction and the free flows of ideas.

Sustainability: The project has been designed to attain LEED Gold status. Green strategies include a rooftop photovoltaic system, rooftop windmills, ample use of natural light, daylight dimming systems, automated windows, and super-efficient mechanical and lighting systems. A thin, low-maintenance green roof system slopes down into the building, forming the focal point of an indoor courtyard atrium......more

Centre for Promotion of Science | Belgrade | Wolfgang Tschapeller

New Belgrade is a city of our times, a city which was invented and planned in the course of the 20th century
with a decisive modernist perspective. Soleil (sun), Verdure (greenery), Espace (space) as well as functional
segregation together with the rules of CIAM where main arguments of New Belgrade. Now, 60 years later,
how do we read New Belgrade and how do we want to continue its construction?
We decided for a few very simple spatial tools, all of them being in close discourse with principles of modernism.
Firstly, we are opting for an elevated city detached from the ground. Only pillars and elements of circulation shall touch on the ground. We are proposing a floating city, very much in the manner of Corbusiers 5 points of architecture, buildings on pilotis giving the entire ground free.....more

Floating Marine Expo Pavilion | Yeosu Oceanic Pavilion | Emergent

The Pavilion is intended to be the centerpiece for the Yeosu 2010 Expo, a space which celebrates the ocean as a living organism and the co-existence of human culture and ocean ecosystems. In our design proposal, the building object and its territory enter into a feedback loop. The role of the architect is expanded to include the active re-organization of matters and energies around and underneath the building, where the species selects its environment as much as the environment selects its species.....more

International Architectural Competition | Benetton Group Headquarters | Teheran, Iran | AQUILIALBERG

.....After all what process could be better adapted to the new headquarters of Benetton if not the evolution of the texture of a fabric in a building, representative for the group itself? The theme of the contest is then interpreted through the inclusion of three new volumes that are identical to each other, rotated and merged into a single volume. The pattern chosen from a Persian fabric is used in its two-dimensional element as a basic skin coating or paving, to evolve and shape the morphology. The positive (the mass) and the negative parts of the texture (the opening) complementing each other, creating both, a solid volume and a trasparent volume which allows natural light to enter the space, enriching the internal space by creating a play between shadow and light.....more

Al nasseem Masterplan By X-Architects

Inspired by the natural features of Al Ain, and the dense urban fabric of traditional islamic cities, the master plan for Al Nasseem creates an unique synergy between urbanity and landscape. Al Ain, also known as the oasis city, is blessed with a unique landscape condition that promotes plant life and supports greenery in a harsh desert environment. The development is envisioned to bring this oasis condition to the fore while also taking its cue from traditional islamic cities and forts that are densely packed to provide self shading and improve wind circulation. These traditional principles offer a passive and simple way to combat the harsh desert environment without excessive technological aids. The master plan attempts to use these principles and adapt them to the modern context to create a strong sustainabe community in Al Ain.....more

International Architectural Competition | Egyptian Museum | Elenberg Fraser

" Our submission responded to the scale of ancient Egypt and the sublime. The scheme proposed to link a network of buildings within the sand dunes and cover the assemblage with an environmental skin to mediate the environment.
The skin moves as it responds to external conditions and is informedby the sun, wind, thermal loads, light levels and fresh air.
The Museum is a cluster of buildings under one roof where the circulation cores and internal network of lane and ramps maximise the complexity of circulatory options and programme adjacencies.".......more
