Bridge Design | Bow-String Bridge | Albert Canal | Belgium | Ney + Partners
Within the project of widening the Albert Canal and the raising of the boat clearance: De Scheepvaart has awarded to Ney&Partners, in a temporary association with Libost-Group, the full design study of a "generic" bow-string bridge. The bridge design has to be able to fit on 24 different locations along the canal. The proposed project is the result of several typological and technical choices and of a maximum standardization of structural elements leading to an optimal scale economy while keeping a high architectural value. The concept - a bow-string bridge with a central arch with parallel suspension rods and two slopes - must also provide a flexible geometry in order to adapt easily to the different locations and environments along the Albert Canal.......more
