Gulating Visitors Centre | Norway | Eriksen Skajaa Architects

Gulating is among the oldest courts in Norway and gathered each year from 900-1300 at Gulen to settle disputes. The project is a new visitors centre with cafe and an exhibition about the site in connection to a sculpture park by the sculptor Bård Breivik. The centre also include wardrobes and workshop spaces for an outdoors play that takes place each summer on the site.

The project takes it name from the old fire cairn system that was used along the coast and across the mountains and the visitors centre marks the site as an important point in the landscape.
Visitors arrive at the ground floor where there is an information desk and a café. From the ground visitors move up into the house through the different parts of the exhibition before arriving at the roof where there is a view across the fjord........more
