The surface of the ground is an abstract layer on which the different streams of people, movements, forces etc. operate. Physical structure is the next level and it is directly connected to these streams. It responds to them, confronts them or directs them. The concept of the system of the two spatially functional trajectories through the complex is treated in every of all possible manners.
The first trajectory has gone one level upward using the existing structure and doing so it has received the largest part of the required programme. This has liberated the surface area of the terrain for the other trajectory, which has, starting from the public access, gone one level downwards liberating the terrain for the public, park spatial facilities, open air stages, amphitheatres, playgrounds which are directly connected to the content of the first trajectory. Urban development vision for sustainable university campus 'Create Campus' is the urban development vision for the university campus for the National Research Foundation of Singapore with 60.000 m2 of university buildings. In accordance with the suggested building typology the concept prescribes a base building, embedded in the site`s topography, covered with a botanic garden and intersected by pedestrian routes that form an interactive public space to which most of the social programs are oriented. On top of the base, four polygon buildings form a characteristic composition that works on multiple levels: it forms a powerful ensemble, providing the necessary landmark-quality for a town-centre on the site, and establishes a strong contextual dialogue, knitting the surroundings together.
The shape of the assembly also reacts to Singapore’s tropical climate with an annual average of 30ºC. Considering the fact that most peo¬ple stay inside as much as possible, the concept provides for pleasant outdoor spaces in the shade and with a low speed wind.........more

The ZVE (Centre for Virtual Engineering) of the Fraunhofer Institute of Industrial | Stuttgart | UNStudio


The ZVE (Centre for Virtual Engineering) of the Fraunhofer Institute of Industrial engineering is located on their research campus in Stuttgart Vaihingen. The building houses a research centre for the investigation into the development of products in a short time frame, focusing on scientific investigation related to the outcome created by various multidisciplinary workflows. The design incorporates an open, technically innovative structure, whilst also adhering to the existing branding strategy of the Fraunhofer Institute. In order to blend the laboratory and research functions with the exhibition and sceneographic visitor routing, a diagrammatic approach is employed, resulting in an open, communicative design. Research plateaus alternate around a central atrium, ringed by a stairway which fluently connects the various functions.........more
