In the Netherlands, 95% of all urbanites with relocation plans desire to move to out of the city, to green open areas. Holland is renowned for having the highest density of road infrastructure in the world, and due to it�s relatively small size, urban sprawl facilitated by the car, is consuming the landscape. This creates a paradoxical situation, on the one hand the desire to densify the rural landscape, on the other, to keep the open, green quality intact. .....more

On a prominent site in a new development in Jeonju, this headquarter building is built-up out of two components, an office building of 22.000m2 and a cultural building of 8.000m2. The typical typology for this programmatic combination would be a plinth containing the cultural program with an office tower above it. By fusing the two volumes, the cultural program flows up into the office program, meeting around the fourth floor where the shared facilities are situated.....more

Kosterhavet | Marine National Park | Sweden | White
Kosterhavet will be Sweden’s first marine national park. The heart of the site is a self-sufficient new building from an energy perspective that exists in symbiosis with the sea.
Kosterhavet’s national park will be inaugurated in September 2009 as Sweden’s first marine national park. White won the competition for a new Visitor Centre with its “Mareld” (sea-fire) proposal. Sea-fire is the sea’s own light and the building, which opens up towards the water, is enriched by reflections on the water’s surface. The effect is a light show of the sea, an artificial sea-fire.....more

Sustainable cities should generate at least as much energy as they consume and on a regional scale be self sufficient in the production of food. Closing energy, water and waste cycles on the building and district scale is one strategy to achieve this.
This approach generates HYBRID forms of architecture and urban clusters that produce more energy, water and food than they consume. This surplus forms a source of income for the district generating a healthy local economy and increased level of wellbeing......more

Southend-on-Sea Pier Competition | White
The international architectural competition attracted 74 practices and our winning proposal shows our ability to combine razor-sharp design with environmental, social and economic sustainability.
The pride of Southend since 1835, the pier is more than two kilometres long - the longest of its kind in the world. The local council wanted to create a modern attraction with an environmental profile for visitors as well as being a source of pride for the town’s residents.....more

The Rotterdam Climate Initiative aims to improve the climate for the benefit of people, the environment, and the economy. Eneco is therefore planning to realise a Green Energy Plant in the Stadshavens (GES) that will substantially contribute to these ambitions.
